 CHANGE IS GOOD

hands.jpg

There are many theories to the meaning of the spiral but one of the few that has inspired this collection is that of the Symbol of Change. The old dies away and leaves space for the new to come to be. Each person progresses from child to adult to elderly. Like life, the spiral is a symbol of change, progression and development. All of which are good and healthy. We should embrace these changes, grow and learn from them even when it is far more comfortable to remain inside of our comfort zones where it feels safe and familiar.

The spiral is also a symbol of water. Water is ever changing. One small thing can cause endless ripples. I am constantly longing to be by the water. I finds peace and inspiration sitting by the ocean. The movement, colors, sounds, smells always bring me back to center.

How you view the spiral is completely personal to you. As you view the artwork, ask yourself, are you on a journey inward toward authenticity, away from materialism and outward perception? Or is it an outward journey from the all consuming self out toward a greater light, God?  To me, it is all of these.

BECOMING

InkyFlowers_petal.jpg

What started as a daily practice to do something that forced me to literally go with the flow turned into quite a love affair.

This collection is a series of extremely delicate, inky flowers gifted to me by honoring my creative spirit and showing up consistently to do the work. I loved pushing myself to go big with the inks. Something that is extremely challenging. While not having a definite subject of what these paintings were to be, the flowers kept appearing. I never considered myself a floral kind of girl, at least when it came to artwork. Give me some fresh flowers for my kitchen counter though and Iā€™m happy. The idea of painting flowers was never something I considered, but I could see that this is what I was being guided to do. After reflecting on what became of this series, I came to understand that flowers are a beautiful gift that comes from hard work and months, even years, of fighting through the dirt, and sometimes even the harshest of conditions to break out, unfold and shine again. To be a gift for all. Yet another symbol of change, growth and new life.

These paintings ranged in size from 5x7 inches up to 48x36 inches. Each painting started on yupo paper (a non-pores substrate). They were sealed and mounted onto a gallery deep cradled wood panel then finished with a resin coating.

TANGLED UP IN BLUE

What began as one last ink commission turned into a small and final collection in my journey with alcohol inks. I am forever grateful for the practice of letting go and allowing the creative spirit to flow freely, teaching me that not everything needs to be controlled. That sometimes the most beautiful things happen in the unplanned and sometimes even in the mistakes. A reminder that we are all beautiful and perfectly imperfect.

I am overflowing with gratitude for your support throughout this part of my creative journey. I pray that you will continue to follow along with me on the next leg of this adventure.
